A Brief History of the RAM

The Ram (previously known as Dodge Ram) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC and, as of late 2010, sold under the Ram brand. Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge lineup of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 on the redesigned Ram and Power Ram, though it came from the hood ornament used on 1930s and '40s Dodge vehicles. The truck is in its fourth generation as of the 2009 year model.

Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year three times - the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, and the third-generation Ram Heavy Duty won the award in 2003. The fourth-generation Dodge Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010.

I recently opened a SIKU gift pack which consisted of a SIKU Mounty pickup truck with a Go Kart on trailer. The SIKU Mounty definetly looks like the RAM. They have the same front hood profile with regards to the engine hood, grills, head light, fog lamps and bumper. SIKU may not have been able to secure the license in producing the RAM so they renamed this to Mounty.

The Germans have reached Japan!

Here are a few of my 3" Siku (German Die-cast Car Brand) cars in a Japanese street diorama setup (Tomica Tomy Town Playsets). Most of the car models in this setup are European in make.

Toyota Land Cruiser - 200 Series

Here are a few comparative shots of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series by Siku (silver) and Tomica (white).





You will notice that the Siku's scale is larger than the Tomica's 1/65 scale. Maybe the Siku is around 1/50 scale. The Siku has colored plastic headlights and rear lights while the Tomica's headlights are included with the front grille's cast and has painted rear lights. Siku has both side mirrors incorporated with the door casts and Tomica has none. Overall, both have acceptable body details with regards to the casting, Toyota logo and Land Cruiser markings but they would look better on different sets of rims.

What did I open today?

I had lunch with my mom and uncle at Friday's last Wednesday, Oct. 07, 2009. After finishing my Chicken Fingers meal with lots of fries, I decided to walk around and drop-by the Toys "R" Us nearby. I checked out the HotWheels, Matchbox and Tomica toy pegs but found nothing new. I proceeded to the SIKU pegs and found this new 2009 release Toyota Land Cruiser....woooohooo!!!

So this Toyota 200 Series Land Cruiser is finally out here in the Philippines, I've been waiting for this SIKU release since last August.

Siku - Porsche 911 Cabrio

The Porsche 911 is a sports car made by Porsche AG of Germany. It's distinctive shape is known for it's rear type engine like the Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle it had been based on.

Since its introduction, it has undergone continuous development. The basic shape and design has remained unchanged throughout its evolution except for the engine's air cooled to water cooled system.

Siku - A Brief History

In 1921 Richard Sieper built a casting foundry company in Luedenscheid, the base of the Sieper-Werke today. They started producing consumer goods like cutleries made of aluminium and ashtrays.

The brand name SIKU (SIEPER KUNSTSTOFFE) was registered in 1950. SIKU joined the exhibit at the 1st Nuremberg Toy Fair and displayed there for the first time toys made of plastic (incl. a farm with animals). In the following years the product range expanded.

In 1954 production of the first 32 SIKU toy-model vehicles were made of plastic, at a well suitable scale of 1:60 for children. In contrast to the competitor at that time, WIKING, who was
producing vehicles at the H0-scale (1:87), SIKU developed car toy models at a
larger scale.

The first 20 model airplanes on a scale of 1:250 were successfully introduced in the market. In 1963 they started production of toy models made of metal using zinc casting process. It all began with 16 models – today the assortment has reached 250 toy models.
