Siku - Porsche 911 Cabrio

The Porsche 911 is a sports car made by Porsche AG of Germany. It's distinctive shape is known for it's rear type engine like the Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle it had been based on.

Since its introduction, it has undergone continuous development. The basic shape and design has remained unchanged throughout its evolution except for the engine's air cooled to water cooled system.

TLV -53 Nissan Laurel

The Nissan Laurel was introduced by in 1968 as the new luxury model a slot above the 1968 Bluebird 510 & with the same sense of luxury found in the Nissan Cedric but with slightly reduced dimensions.

The first Laurel was developed by the Prince Motor Company, consisting of both 2-door and 4-door variants. It was released as a Nissan after Prince merged with Nissan. Laurels for years shared many components and architectures with the Skyline range.

Since 1968, eight generations of Laurel have been produced in Japan. Nissan listed the Laurel for sale in only selected Asian and European markets (it was also sold in Chile, as Datsun Laurel, in the late seventies), and then discontinued the export of this model in 1989.

1st time I did a shoot in black background. Sorry for the poor quality. I'm still practicing my settings on my simple point and shoot digicam.

Siku - A Brief History

In 1921 Richard Sieper built a casting foundry company in Luedenscheid, the base of the Sieper-Werke today. They started producing consumer goods like cutleries made of aluminium and ashtrays.

The brand name SIKU (SIEPER KUNSTSTOFFE) was registered in 1950. SIKU joined the exhibit at the 1st Nuremberg Toy Fair and displayed there for the first time toys made of plastic (incl. a farm with animals). In the following years the product range expanded.

In 1954 production of the first 32 SIKU toy-model vehicles were made of plastic, at a well suitable scale of 1:60 for children. In contrast to the competitor at that time, WIKING, who was
producing vehicles at the H0-scale (1:87), SIKU developed car toy models at a
larger scale.

The first 20 model airplanes on a scale of 1:250 were successfully introduced in the market. In 1963 they started production of toy models made of metal using zinc casting process. It all began with 16 models – today the assortment has reached 250 toy models.

Cars in the Streets of Metro Manila

photo from my_soul_insurance2004

Have you ever seen or experienced the heavy traffic in Metro Manila? It takes around 1-2hrs of travel time from Quezon City to Makati City (approx 5 Miles or 8 Kilometers) during rush hours.

You have to allot ample travel time whenever you're driving to work, catching a meeting, picking-up/dropping-off someone to the airport and school.

Arrogant and undisciplined public utility drivers contribute to the heavy traffic too. They just stop anywhere they want to for passengers. Worst of all, they race with one another to the bus and jeepney stops and sometimes cause accidents.

Being patient will help you a lot in navigating the streets of Metro Manila. All types of vehicles ply the streets - from ordinary family sedans, to large and small delivery trucks, to public utility transports, to sports and recreational vehicles and to exotic cars. Looking at them through the streets and appreciating them will help you maintain that cool head while driving.

Here are a few cars that can be seen on the streets of Metro Manila. Enjoy the traffic!

HotWheels Tokens

Last year, I assisted Richwell Trading, Philippine distributor of HotWheels and Matchbox, in organizing a diecast car exhibit. It was a mall tour event that ran for more than a month. It was very tiring during the setup of each mall event but it was all worth it.

They gave out tokens of appreciation to all collectors who participated in the event. It was a regular HotWheels car mounted on a customized base. I got one too but since I concentrated on collecting Tomica last year, I wasn't updated anymore with the new HotWheels release. I can't identify and relate to the car token that I got.

"Bee Like"

So I decided to remove the "Bee Like" car and replace it with my own piece from what's left of my HotWheels collection.
I tried on 2 different castings, now I can't decide which one I like best. Haha!

Osaka Convention - VW Drag Truck

2005 Treasure Hunt - VW Drag Bus

Feel free to suggest and comment which model fits best to the custom base.

Tomica - Museum Series

A few years ago, Tomica released the Museum Series, they were in 5 batches of 6 car models. I have most of them but I'm still missing the 2nd batch of 6 (M07-12). I'm still hoping that I can complete them soon. Send me a message or post a comment here if you can help me complete this set.

Here are detailed shots of the models.

Tomica Museum Series

M-01 Toyota Crown Fire Chief

M-02 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG Patrol Car

M-03 Yamaha Sports TX750 Police Type

M-04 Toyota Land Cruiser Highway Construction Service Car

M-05 Nissan Gloria Patrol Car

M-06 Toyota JASDS Ambulance Type HQ15V

Black with Flames

I collect Black with Flames cars in multi scale and brand but I started out with the Johnny Lightning Black with Flames Street Freaks series in 1/64 scale. When I noticed more BWF models were available in 1/24 and 1/18 scales, I decided to get them for variety in my display cabinet. Soon more scales and brands were added and it helped my BWF collection grow faster.

I stopped collecting them for almost 2 years now since I concentrated on Tomica but I still buy a few here and there whenever I see an interesting piece off the local toy shelves. I'll be posting and updating this thread every once in a while to show photos of my BWF collection.
